Japanese lantern shop YAMASAKI
There are many festivals in Onomichi. In winter, Betcha Festival (to protect residents against evils) and in summer, Sumiyoshi Fireworks Festival… Each season has a certain festival. These festivals are all decorated with Japanese lanterns called chochin. In old days, chochins used to be utilized not only at festivals but also at home. All chochins are hand made and I am the third shop owner. All hand work and skills were not taught by the former shop owner. I trained myself by looking all the work and process made by the former owner. That is the traditional way to inherit. Besides chochins, I lately make Betcha demon masks as souvenirs. I speak English so please feel free to visit me.
